Planning for the second regional Arts, Antiques & Music Festival is well underway by a group of High Street merchants, organized to advocate the interests of Millville’s Downtown arts and business community – it was announced here today by Jim Penland, a local artist and High Street gallery owner.

The annual festival has been sanctioned by the City of Millville for Sunday, September 13, in the heart of the city’s Glasstown Arts District. High Street, between Broad and Main Streets, will be closed to traffic for the daylong event.

Mayor Tim Shannon and Planning Director Kim Ayers are lending their support on behalf of the City, together with the Millville Development Corporation, for what the merchants’ steering committee envisions as a venue for the region’s important artists, collectors, artisans, and musicians.

“We plan to reach far beyond our own city limits to promote the productions of our artistic community and to celebrate the art and music of our region.” said Penland. “ We want to showcase the work of serious artists working in a variety of disciplines.as well as artisans representing crafts as various as glassblowing and woodcarving, furniture-making and restoration."

"We have the facilities in which to bring together the regions important artists, artisans, craftspeople, antique sellers, and musicians with those who appreciate cultural achievement and those who collect examples of it. This Festival is a continuing expression of the aspirations our city planners had for the Glasstown Arts District when they conceived it almost ten years ago.”

Respected practitioners in the arts and crafts, antique sellers, and musicians will be invited to participate. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Registration deadline is September 7, 2009.

An application form and complete information is available on this website. An exhibit fee of $25.00 for each 10’ x 10’ space will be charged to businesses located outside of downtown Millville. (Vendor Reservations are first-come, first-served.)
